Last year our Master Distiller became the lead tutor for spirits at the Wine and Spirits Education Trust (WSET), delivering classroom content for the highest qualification they offer, the Level 4 Diploma.
The WSET has long been the industry standard for Wine and Spirit Education. With over 600 centres in 73 countries, they teach an incredible 72,000 students each year, a number which has increased steadily since their inception back in 1969 and shows no sign of slowing.
As part of an initiative to reach a wider global audience, the WSET has recently launched their “3 minute spirit school” video series on YouTube. The episodes each focus on a single spirit category, and are hosted by a world-leading expert on the subject. As such, the revered Richard Paterson (Master Distiller & Master Blender, Whyte & Mackay) hosts the Whisky session, Rum is covered by Head Distiller of Privateer Rum (and Stage 2 Master of Wine candidate) Maggie Campbell. Cognac is expertly explained by author Joel Harrison, and viewers are guided through gin by our own Master Distiller William Lowe (video above).
The full series of WSET videos can be found here, and if you’re interested in studying WSET Spirits courses you can do so either at the WSET headquarters in London, or right here in Cambridge where Will is our resident tutor.
