Hot on the heels of two consecutive awards for the world’s most innovative spirits, here at The Cambridge Distillery we are pushing boundaries once again with our new Truffle Gin.
Whilst very small volumes of this decadent digestif have been available in prototype form for over a year already we are now ready for full-scale production.
As with many of The Cambridge Distillery products, this gin utilises botanicals grown and foraged by our green fingered team within the local area. This new project, however, has specifically called upon the talents of the youngest member of the team, Darcy.
Darcy’s powerful sense of smell made her the ideal truffle specialist within the company. Not only is she the company mascot, she is also our pet Labrador and has been present (and, indeed, influential) since the conception of our brand. She even has a proven pedigree in botanical selection, having successfully launched the world’s first gin for dogs (Labrador Gin) back in April 2014.
When interviewed by Fred Hallam of the Daily Beagle, Lucy commented that “Darcy always seemed keen to get involved when we were foraging, so we weren’t at all surprised to find that she had a natural talent when we taught her to snuffle for truffles”.*
Her keen sense of smell has enabled us to select the freshest local truffles available, from under our very noses. It’s the best contribution yet from the distillery dog, who has already become known as one of the most formidable forces worldwide within the gin industry.
Truffle Gin will be hitting the shelves within the next few weeks. Keep your nose on the scent for further updates.
*Please note this blog was published on April 1st. Truffle Gin is a real project but, whilst we love the idea of Darcy foraging them for us, we now use white truffle from Alba.
