In September of 2013, Mark de Rond an Anton Wright left the calm waters of Cambridge and set about the challenge of becoming the first in the world to row the entire navigable length of the Amazon, unaided.
The idea was in equal parts insane and inspiring and we are very pleased to say that they completed their mission, both in tact, collecting a Guinness World Record along the way. You can, and should, read all about it here.
Here at The Cambridge Distillery we feel a certain affinity with those setting out to do what no-one before them has achieved, so we were keen to help in any way we could. It turns out, gin makes for pretty effective rowing fuel!
Yesterday we attended a reception hosted by Mark and Anton in which they were able to add some detail to the already colourful and vivid descriptions of their adventures which they blogged as they went. We were safely at home reading these as they were published, and it was an incredibly insightful experience to follow their progress step by step (you can even see the GPS track of their voyage here).
We presented the boys with a new bottle of gin – the very last bottle of Cambridge Gin Autumn/Winter 2013 – specially labelled for them. Who know what’s they’ll dream up when they get stuck into this one? (clue here!)
Congratulations Mark and Anton!
